To train the technicians and project officers engaged in edible and medicinal mushrooms research, production and technical dissemination in developing countries. 2. To introduce mushroom biology, genetics, breeding and cultivation in China, and accordingly contribute to the development of mushroom production in home countries. 3. To enhance interchange and cooperation in mushroom research and production between China and other developing countries. Programs: 1. General introduction on mushroom biology and development of mushroom production in China. 2. Basic knowledge of mushroom genetics and breeding. 3. Major methods for cultivation of wood-decay and straw-rot mushrooms in China. 4. Introduction of various functions of edible & medicinal mushrooms and products development. Visits to mushroom farm and factory. 5. Cultivation of rare mushrooms, volvariella volvacea (straw mushroom) and Lentinula edodes (shiitake mushroom). 6. Prevention and control of mushroom diseases and pests. 7. General processes of mushroom cultivation, including compost preparation, mixing, filling, sterilization, inoculation, and the use of equipment.
