China Leather & Footwear Industry Research Institute (CLFI), founded in Beijing in 1959, is the sole state level, professional and comprehensive research organization in China leather and footwear industry. It is the center of scientific research, the center of standardization, the center of quality supervision and inspection, the center of information, the center of productivity promotion as well as the center of engineering technology.

During the last 50 years, CLFI has taken on and completed over 350 important projects commissioned by state, ministries, as well as municipalities and has won more than 80 varieties of national, provincial and ministerial science and technology awards and drafted and revised over 310 industry standards. CLFI therefore has made great contribution to the development of China leather and footwear industry.        

CLFI now consists of 160 staff members. Of them, more than 140 are professionals including 11 professorate senior engineers, 35 senior engineers, 5 doctors, 1 doctoral supervisor and 6 master instructors.

CLFI has branches in Zhejiang, Hebei, Fujian, Guangdong, Shandong, Henan and Sichuan etc, as well as 14 R&D centers building with local enterprises. Approved by Ministry of Personnel, CLFI has set up a research station for post-doctoral studies. CLFI’s inspection laboratory obtained the certification of CNAS in1990 and CLFI obtained the certification of ISO 9000 Quality Management System in 2003.
