Eighth Meeting of the Science and Technology Cooperation Subcommittee of China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee Held in Beijing

On May 13, 2019, the Eighth Meeting of the Science and Technology Cooperation Subcommittee of the China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee was held in Beijing. The meeting was co-chaired by Huang Wei, Chinese Chairman of the Subcommittee and Vice-Minister of Science and Technology of China, and Fatima Zhakypova, Kazakh Chairperson of the Subcommittee and Vice-Minister of Education and Science of Kazakhstan. 

At the meeting, the two sides briefed each other on the national policies, priorities and latest plans for science and technology development in their respective countries, and exchanged in-depth views on the status quo and future science and technology cooperation between China and Kazakhstan. Representatives of research institutions and technology enterprises from China and Kazakhstan reported to the Subcommittee on the implementation of key projects of science and technology cooperation and their work plans for the next step. The Subcommittee spoke highly of the fruitful cooperation achievements made by the relevant research institutions, universities and science and technology enterprises of both sides. It was agreed that the two sides will continue to fully leverage the coordination and leading role of the subcommittee mechanism, guide interagency and regional cooperation, and incorporate key cooperation projects recognized by both sides into the sub-committee mechanism. The two sides will also create conditions to support the application of advanced research results, support their relevant research institutions to establish various forms of cooperation in science and technology cooperation, carry out joint R&D and industrialize research results together, and encourage their key research institutions to establish joint laboratories and joint R&D centers in priority areas.

In addition, the two sides reached agreement on forging closer people-to-people exchanges in science and technology, especially on strengthening exchanges and cooperation among young scientists. The Chinese side briefed the Kazakh side on Talented Young Scientist Program, encouraged young scientists from Kazakhstan to come to China for short-term research, and invited research institutions from Kazakhstan to participate in training workshops on advanced applicable technology sponsored by China. The Kazakh side introduced to the Chinese side the Young Scholar Program and the International Cooperation Plan which it intends to implement.

After the meeting, the two sides signed the Minutes of the Eighth Meeting of the Science and Technology Cooperation Subcommittee of the China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee. 

During its visit to China, the Kazakh delegation also visited Tsinghua University and the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
