On January 24, 2018, a meeting on S&T cooperation between China and the International Energy Agency (IEA) was held in Beijing and attended by nearly 50 representatives from Chinese research institutes, universities and enterprises involved in various technology cooperation programs with IEA.

In his address to the meeting, Chen Linhao, Deputy Director General, Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology, stated that China has participated in 20 technology cooperation programs (TCP) of the IEA covering fossil fuel, renewable energy, energy end-use and fusion energy, and established a comprehensive platform of international energy S&T cooperation. This platform should be well utilized to promote China¡¯s clean energy development on the one hand and contribute to the world¡¯s transition towards sustainable energy on the other hand. In addition, the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and the Mission Innovation (MI) ministerial have also become important platforms of international cooperation for promoting clean energy development and deployment. As the initiatives and challenges of these two mechanisms have much in common with the TCPs of the IEA in such fields as smart grid, clean coal, energy storage, hydrogen energy, and energy efficient end-use equipment, he urged relevant entities to make full use of all the above-mentioned platforms by leading or getting deeply involved in clean energy R&D collaboration projects, so as to achieve win-win results.

At the meeting, the Liaison Office for China-IEA Cooperation and other relevant entities made reports on their work progress in 2017 and plans for 2018. The representatives shared their experience and discussed difficulties they are encountering.
