On July 12, Zhang Jianguo, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and Administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, met with the visiting delegation of the Hong Kong Scientist Association in Beijing. The two sides made fruitful exchanges on the latest progress in mainland-Hong Kong sci-tech cooperation and promotion of Hong Kong scientists¡¯ engagement into the national innovation system.

Vice Minister Zhang welcomed the visiting delegation. He pointed out that in recent years, MOST has worked closely with the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, stepped up support for Hong Kong¡®s science and innovation, and guided researchers in Hong Kong to involve in national science and technology activities, producing fruitful results. During the meeting, Vice Minister Zhang addressed issues that Hong Kong scientists pay attention to, including supporting universities and research institutions in Hong Kong to be lead organizations in setting up state key laboratories, promoting the commercialization of research results, supporting innovation and development in Hong Kong through national science and technology programs and encouraging young scientists to contribute to national science and technology development. Vice Minister Zhang¡¯s remarks were warmly received and highly appreciated by the visiting delegation.

President Nancy Kwan Man, Honorary Advisor W. John Kao and other representatives of the Hong Kong Scientist Association exchanged views with representatives of MOST on independent applications for setting up state key laboratories and other platforms, participation in the development of science and innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, support for innovation and business start-ups by young people in Hong Kong, promotion of cooperation in the traditional Chinese medicine industry, and strengthening of exchanges in science popularization. The delegation thanked MOST¡¯s support for Hong Kong¡¯s science and innovation over the years, and said that it will encourage Hong Kong scientists to work closely with mainland scientists, contribute to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and push forward Hong Kong¡¯s integration into the overall development of the country.

Present at the meeting were Ye Dongbai, DG of International Cooperation & DG of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, Tang Yuli, DDG of Policies, Regulation and Supervision, Yu Jian, DDG of Innovation and Development, Wu Xueti, DDG of Resource Allocation and Management, Guo Zhiwei, DDG of Basic Research, and Xu Jie, Deputy Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of MOST and Chen Jiachang, DG of China Science and Technology Exchange Center. Liu Zhiming, DDG of Education and Science of the Liaison Office of the Central People¡¯s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region also attended the meeting.
