Vice Minister LI Xueyong of MOST met with visiting Premier Stelmach of Alberta on May 18, 2010. Both sides renewed the MOST-Alberta Memorandum of Understanding on Science and Technology Cooperation.

Vice Minister Li looked forward to upgrading cooperation in innovation and commercialization.

According to Premier Stelmach, both Canada and China are faced with challenges in resources, energy and environment. He said science and technology collaboration holds the key to these challenges. Premier Stelmach also believed cooperation with China will facilitate the transition of Alberta from resource-based economy to knowledge-based economy.
